Iris rhizomes decimated by worms

I just dug up my iris rhizomes after their horribly weak show this year. Over 90% of the rhizomes were decimated by worms. I dug them all up, found and discarded the worms, and trimmed the rhizomes to whatever good stuff was left. Do I stand a decent chance of having it worm-free next year? I never use chemicals in my garden, but I'm willing to make an exception for my lilies.

Kestas, sounds like Iris Borer attacking your plants. Here's a website with some good info:
