My grandma used to make it. I'm thinking about it. I like white wine, maybe I'll buy white grape vine. I don't know a thing about how to make wine & don't know where to begin yet but I think it would be fun to try to make it at least once.Would be fun to hear from all of you who have made it. How do you do it? Interesting stories about it? |

One of my favorites & grown in cali too, woohoo! Other grape varieties at site! http://www.bryny.com/grapes.htm Zinfandel: An important grape variety, also thought to be the variety once known as Black St. Peter in early 19th century California lore, currently grown in California and used to produce robust red wine as well as very popular "blush wines" called "white Zinfandel". Zinfandel is noted for the fruit-laden, berry-like aroma and prickly taste characteristics in its red version and pleasant strawberry reminders when made into a "blush" wine. While its origins are not clear it has been tentatively identified as the Primitivo (di Gioia), a grape species found in Apulia, southern Italy. According to a recent report this grape may also be identical to the Vranac grape found in Montenegro, the state that, combined with Serbia, constitutes what remains of the former Yugoslavia. Another, somewhat suspect, clone contender is the Plavac Mali from the coastal area known as Dalmatia, a province of Croatia also recently a part of the former Yugoslavia and located just across the Adriatic sea from the shores of Italian Apulia. |

Most of us think of fruits as being sweet, but I believe anything with seeds in it is technically a fruit. Tomatoes, olives, peppers, etc. I don't know anyone that has made wine, but have seen several shows on how it is made. The grapes are mashed to extract the juice, then you add in some other ingredients and let it ferment in a wood barrel for an extended period of time. Depending on the wood you choose(Cedar, Oak, Mahogany), it will give the wine a distinct flavor. Also, the length of time you let it ferment will impact flavor and body. Im sure you can use something other than a wood barrel if you wanted to, but I think the wood barrel technique is what is used by the top wine producers. I can't remember if it is heated at all throughout the process and by no means is this the exact method, but I hope it points you in the right direction.

Damethod I looked up avocado after I read what you said. It's a fruit! & thank you for the wine info too. I read bits and pieces of info. from different sites & GG forum (didn't know others posted about it ) on how to make wine. My goodness! "bleach" your bottles, seal tight, skin your grapes if you want white wine, find the right kit, know the terms, make sure you don't set your bottle/barrel or whatever it is on the ground, make sure you check it on time 'cause it can turn into vinegar or it can get too strong(?), don't use sugar, use sugar AND there was more! Sheesh & YIKES! I think I should stick to drinking it only!

GREEN BEANS HAVE SEEDS!!! lol sorta I've had a few homemade wines and I tried to make it once. I got to the fruitfly stage and pitched it. I was told by my old Italian friend that I was on the way to making it and should have kept going. It was brown though and smelled raisiny! There's lots of Italians around here that still make their own wine and this area of the snowbelt is wine country. Some of the places south of me have mile after mile of vineyard. Do some research on it before you attempt it and make sure you'll have the right conditions so you don't end up with a barrel of vinegar. |
