Just for fun I thought some of you might like to look at an old rose garden restoration in Grass Valley, California. This is Saint Joseph's Convent & Chapel, formal rose garden planted in 1865 (when it had full sun!) Now the trees the Sisters planted are huge and the roses are suffering for it. There are some very old roses here along with some more modern ones added as time went on. The garden went through a time of neglect and the gates were locked for many years. A huge population in our town does not even know that the garden is here. Out of sight behind the brick wall! Now that restoration is almost done, we have the gates open for folks to come in and relax, browse, what have you. (Only a little mischief in the water fountain so far!). Check out the picture comparison in the albums on my photo page. I have lot's of pictures of the roses and will add then a bit later. Gotta run my daughter to her job at the minute. |
