canna lily doesn't flower

hi all hoping someone knows what's going on w/ my bengal tiger (canna, of course, lol) this is the 3rd summer i've had it. the first year it bloomed beautifully w/ those big tangerine flowers and since then, not a bloom in sight. nice, big, lush, healthy plant...sans the flowers! have a striped beauty sitting next to it which is on its 3rd 'stalk' of flowers. i winter them the same way and they get equal sun, water, fert. etc. any ideas? still a gorgeous plant, but not as gorgeous as i know 'he' can be! thanks much! |

Hi Elwood, You might take a look at the fertilizer you are using on your Canna Bengal Tiger. Be sure it is free of copper. They are very heavy feeders so it helps to fertilize frequently with a fertilizer analysis of 5 percent nitrogen, 10 percent phosphate, and 5 percent potassium (5-10-5). And they love moist soil since they are a bog plant. Do you ever visit here? hi there thanks much for your answer...nice to have someone who, unlike me, actually knows what she's doing!! lol checked out my fertilizer, no copper, 'schultz bloom builder' 10-54-10 Success!!! just this week a flower stalk has appeared and he's 'ready to go'....woohooooo!! thanks much! elwood (maybe can post a photo shortly) |
