Im not 100% sure, but I've read that strawberries produce on the second year. There are a boatload of different types, so do some research on your specific variety. Im going to try planting some seeds in the fall.

My son was given some alpine strawberry seeds last fall. I planted them in pots and grew them in the house. They grew well for the first few weeks, then suddenly died. I have no idea why

I just checked the seed packet I have and it is indeed Alpine strawberries. Here is a copy of the info from the website that I purchased them from..

ALEXANDRIA ALPINE STRAWBERRY SEEDS
This is an improved selection that features fruits that are twice the size of wild berries. The compact, heavy blooming, runnerless perennial plants produce large amounts of fragrant and tasty strawberries continuously from spring through fall. Will often naturalize in partly shaded well watered areas of your garden. Superb in containers. Packet is 200 seeds. Jumbo packet is 1,500 seeds.

I got really enthused when I read this info. I've never had luck with strawberries either, but I refuse to give up. Im going to seperate a 10x2 section of my yard for growing strawberries next month. If they die on me again...I'll turn it into a pepper garden and lettuce patch.

Is that when you are supposed to start strawberry seeds? Are you going to sow them directly? Maybe that was the problem with mine- wrong time of year and indoors
I plan on ordering some strawberry plants this fall

Most of the information I've read states to plant them in the spring(strawberries), but that is when they start producing. So, I'm going to try starting them indoors within the next two months. Then when spring comes along, I'll transplant them outdoors along with more seeds just in case.

I purchased the sites from a website that has a boatload of different types of seeds. I also purchased 3 or 4 types of heirloom tomatoes, yellow bell pepper, lettuce, and a hot pepper mix seed packet. Here is a link to the site:

Just copy and paste that into your search bar.

So far, I planted some tomato and pepper seeds and they are looking good.
