Ok, i live in Georgia, and I have worked really hard on my mini garden (mostly tomatoes) and have already picked, given away and had so much salsa and so many BLT's, that i don't know what do to anymore!!! We planted some better boys along with some nice heirloom tomatoe plants that my mom picked up for me in north georgia... now, that I finally have a break from harvesting those yummy maters(non stop for about a month now!)I have really started to concentrate a little more on my poor cucumbers and pumpkins. My cucumber has harvested a few times with decent sized fruit, but my pumpkin seems to be suffering a bit more. My daughter and I planted a few pumpkin seeds for fun last year.. we kind of forgot about it, and before we knew it, that darn vine was down the middle of the yard, and had several pumpkins on it... We didn't realize it until my rescue puppy found it and obviously thought that it was a wonderful yummy new ball!!! So, I guess I need to figure out why my pumpkin is not producing any fruit yet. It's definately flowering, but I'm guessing they are just either male or females? I also need help with staking? They are vines, so do any of you have any advice based on your experiences with staking/growing these veggies?? Thanks so much!! |

You really need to have several pumpkin plants growing (I think 6 is the recommended lowest number)to make sure you get adequate pollination for the plants to take off. Also your male flowers will appear 1-2 weeks before the females show up. You may just have to wait a little yet. Hope this may have helped a little. Sass |

I wish i could help you with the pumpkins, but I have no idea! I wanted to reply to say Lucky you in having so many tomatoes already! My Better Boy and Champion tomatoes are just starting to ripen now! Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have tomatoes. |

Does anyone know what would eat pumpkin vines. I had thought they would be fine outside my garden but something is eating the vines. I have lots of flowers but all of a sudden there are some vines that end all of a sudden without leaves on them. Would rabbits or raccoons eat them? We don't have any deer by us. Any help would be great. The boys are very excited to pick there own pumpkins so I would hate to loose them. I'll try to remember to take a picture of them tonight. |
