I just thought I would share my little stupid move with everyone...

When we planted our garden I was in a hurry at the store picking out my seeds.(Stupid move #1) because I guess we desided to plant the SAME DAY as everyone else in this town!

I ended up getting leaf lettuce instead of head lettuce!(Stupid move #2) OK not to bad of a move I guess but not what intended to do!

I have never grown lettuce before and didn't read anything about growing lettuce of any kind before I had my hubby put the seeds in the ground! (Stupid move #3)

Am I the only one that didn't know that if you cut all but about 1 inch or so off your lettuce it will regrow! That would have been one really nice thing to know before my hubby and I transplanted all the little lettuce into other rows when we were thinning them out.

There is only so much lettuce one person can eat. We have two solid rows over 20 lettuce plants!

Thanks so much for the giggles
Let me think on all the stupid mistakes (some even knowing better than to do) that I have done so far this year- I could probably write a book LOL!
OK, this was my sister: She decided to till a garden bed- got out the tiller and tilled up a bunch of, what looked to her, weeds. Planted a bunch of different things and proudly showed it off to her boyfriend. He replies: "What happened to my lettuce?!"
Last year I planted bottle gourds. I worked an area that was about 16 square feet (4x4), and planted them about a foot apart. This spot is also right next to my picket fence, and between 2 perennial beds. Only AFTER the gourds started growing up and into everything did I learn that they are climbing plants that should be planted about 8 ft apart! They broke about half of my butterfly bush off, completely took over the fence, tansy, wisteria, lantana, agastache, goldenrod, the list goes on, and half the lawn.
This year I planted the seeds along the ditch so they could grow along that and up into my detested privet trees- not a single one sprouted and grew
I'll have more to come...

Here is what I learned so far this year.. Never let your husband wander in the garden while you are working! He will backyard garden you to death with "honey why don't you?" or "honey you should, would or could".

Be friends with the neighborhood gang kitties, they will eat and kill your arch nemises for you.

rely on your gardening friends for help, support and general good times.

More to come

I must admit aurora that I love the bit about your sister planting over her boyfriends lettuce! That was a very good one! But my question is did she plant lettuce?

Sass I couldn't agree more! Although like I said my hubby says quite frequently that he has no idea about gardening and he leaves that one all up to me. Although I let him be part of the planting when we began. He made mounds for everything and was so proud of them I didn't have the heart to tell him that everything does not need to be planted in mounds! So, I planted everything that way!

Where would I be without GardenGuides!?! I'll tell you where I would be!!!!
