I know you need a martin house and been reading some about them so which is a good house for them? Plastic,or aluninum I am not crazy about the wood kind? When do you plug their holes up and when do you take them out? If anyone has a martin house will you let me know how to care for them? Thank you all Quote \| Reply \| Report

I do know that when you put up a new house it can take 2 years before Martins will move it. They like to return to the same place every year, so you have to have new ones move in. I would think a wood house would be better because of heat, but I'm no expert! I had a friend whose Martin house got blown down during a wind storm-He bought a new one and put it up-the birds wouldn't go in it. He put the old one back up right next to the new one and they moved right in! Strange. I also know that they prefer their house to be 20 ft. or so from the nearest structure.
