pinkdamsel until i see new bugs/insects I forget about this post, sorry. a while back I wrote about seeing a red velvet ant http://my.gardenguides.com/forums/topic/54193 , look what I just saw a few minutes ago.

Just looked up the velvet ant above, it is a Dasymutilla Gloriosa (Thisledown Velvet Ant). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasymutilla_gloriosa The Thistledown Velvet Ant is a member of the Dasymutilla genus. The female is flightless while the male retains its wings. It ranges from Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and south into Mexico. |
