I have a space behind my garden that i dump any thing that will compost. Does any one else do this ? Every spring i have compost i add to the garden. Really don't have a weed problem doing it this way.

Yep.That's the way we do it. We have about four or five different piles in varying stages of decomposition.

That's pretty much what I do too. I have an area set aside for it, that is surrounded on 3 sides by a fence to make a sort of box. I can't afford fancy tumblers

I did- thanks It's really cool.
There's just 2 problems:
1. We don't have a welder
2. Hubby wants one, and then my "inexpensive, home-built" tumbler would be VERY expensive LOL!

When keeping your compost pile on the ground do you have a problem with rodents? Also, can you add horse manure to compost?

I add lots of horse manure to my compost and the rodents are not a problem have a 2 foot high chicken wire fence around that area. Any thing that will compost goes in th pile and i mean any thing but meat, animals etc .Weeds, flowers, paper, cow manure, rabbit manure what ever i can get free or cheap.

I'm thinking about jumping on the compst band wagon also. I found a design using pallets (which we can get for free), and a rubbermade trash can with locking lid. the trouble is finding a spot to put it.

1) am I right in guessing it needs to be in a full sun location?

2) I saw on a show that adding earth worms speeds up the process. True?

Thanks in advance for the help
