My mom got a notice from the dishwasher repair people about her Jenn-air dishwasher (also includes Maytag, Whirlpool, and Kitchen-aid) being a possible fire hazard. Ours is about 7 years old, I think, and we hadn't had any problems yet. BUT if you have an affected dishwasher and contact Jenn-air, or the appropriate company, they will send you a free repair kit and have someone come out and install it so your dishwasher will be safe, or give you a $75 coupon towards a new Jenn-air dishwasher. The repair guy is coming tomorrow. I've been doing dishes by hand for about a week--oh the horror!!

Just thought I'd let everybody know since this has not been publicized like salmonella tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. And those can't even burn your house down. They advise that if you have an affected dishwasher, you stop using it immediately, and disconnect the power, which we did. We had used it though for so many years without problems, but I guess just to be on the safe side.

It's a bit of a maze getting to the right place to find out if you have an affected dishwasher, and ordering the repair kit, and getting someone to install it. You can do a search on "Jenn-air (or whatever kind you have) dishwasher recall" to get started. First you have to order the repair kit, and then you have to arrange for someone to install it. Here's a link to some info about the recall, and two numbers that you might call to arrange for service (at least in SE PA).

Okay, here's the one for whirlpool and kenmore. I think the other one just has jenn-air and maytag. Ooops sorry about that.
