I bought a shell plant this spring and it is growing like crazy. BUT I don't have any flowers. Has anyone had one of these? It looked pretty in the catalog. Is this going to be like my moon flowers that don't bloom till late August or September? They alway start right before the first frost here. How can I winter it over?

I had one once and I believe it was around august when mine started blooming. I wasn't to pleased with it so I didn't save any seed but now I wish I had so I could try again. According to the catalog they bloom from mid summer till fall. Good luck with yours.

I'd never heard of this plant before, so I checked it out. Wow. Isn't that unusual! I'll have to read up on this.

That is beautiful! Too bad in my zone, it would have to be overwintered in the house.

I will have to winter it over in the house too. That means I'll loss it because I have trouble keeping plants in our house in the winter. The only room with a good window for light is in the guess room that we don't heat unless we have company.

I bought 3 of them this year. I have just started to see a couple of flowers, and they are very unique looking. I really am liking these plants! I plan to dig them up over winter and try to plant them again in the spring.

I have bought 2 shell plants. The most recent of the two started growing wildly, then just died. I watered it enough(not too much), gave it plenty of sunshine.I'm in zone 6 so I have to keep it in a pot. I don't know what happened to it, but now I want to buy another one and I can't find them anymore. I usually get all the flower company magazines like Michigan Bulb Co. and Spring Hill Nursery, but when I go on their websites, they don't have them. Anyone know where I could get one for a decent price?

I noticed some seed for sale and was a bit surprised at the price. They are about $1 each! http://www.seedsavers.org/prodinfo.asp?number=1085
