Our beautiful pond has developed a bad case of algae and I need to know why & how to get rid of it. I do not want to use any chemical because it is full of fish, frogs, birds, etc....Please help, So far I have just been skimming it off as much as I can but would like to find a better solution. Any ideas? |

OMG! what a beautiful place you have! (I just looked at your photos) This is your first summer in your new place, right? It's possible that the algae "problem" you're having may be perfectly natural and that the best thing you can do is leave it alone. If you have lots of frogs, fish, and birds - and I can see you have lots of native plants - it seems to me likely that your pond is "in balance", and trying to eradicate the algae might have unforeseen consequences. |

As stereo said- I would leave it alone, unless you start to see major fish die-off In which case I would contact your local equivalent to Dept of Agriculture for advice

WEll thank you very much! I really love it here and am finding new exciting things every day. I will take your advice and leave the algae alone. The water seems very clear other then that one patch of it so I guess I will just have to deal! |

Throwing a barley straw bale in the pond will clear up your algae. |

True indeed! You can also buy a barley straw extract in a bottle at your local Toy Store or garden supply. |
