I grew a couple last year, they made it to over 8ft tall and bloomed, but I lost them in my green house crash. I waited a little late this year but will over winter in the house and set them out next spring. John Attachments: ![]() |

They are notoriously easy to start from seed. Just pop them in the dirt and watch them grow. They like moist well draining soil, but I've seen them growing just about anywhere. I use one tablespoon of 8-3-9 fertilizer per ft. of tree height once a month except for November and December. |

These are the papaya trees I grew from seed last year just after I moved them into the green house. They grew that big in one season. I had some blooms but the trees wasn't blooming at the same time. Damethod, I don't know what the variety is, I just used seed from the one's my MIL eats all the time. They thousands of seeds per fruit. John Attachments: ![]() |

What a small world.. My grandfather is growing several papayas from seed. So, he decided to send about 7 of them over to me(bare root) with my Mom. She ended up forgeting about them for 3 days in the back of her car. I ended up picking out the two strongest looking ones and planted them in a pot together to see if I could revive them. I had to use bamboo and tie raps to support them and trimmed off all leaves except for one. They now seem to be straightening out and gaining strength.

Hi ya ll, I saw this stream on papaya and just had to share this story, I have a papaya tree that fell completely over last winter because it was so top heavy with fruit. My husband and I picked it up, put it back in the ground and nailed three 2x4s to it to support it. A week ago we had strong winds due to storms stirring around in the gulf and the top of the tree looked like it was going to snap off so we tied and staked a small rope to it, surprisingly the tree is doing fine and is once again loaded with fruit. These trees are amazingly resilient and easy to grow. I'll post pic for you to see. |
