I have so many extra pond plants, I wish I knew of anyone in my area that needed them. I have Purple Pickerel Rush, Pink Pickerel Rush, Umbrella Palm,TONS of water lettuce. It would be nice to share and trade with local folk! Attachments: ![]() |

That actually looks kinda nice just the way it is, wross. Probably not what you had in mind though. I limit myself to three aquatics in each of my fish ponds, though at the moment I have only one in the upper pond. I haven't put anything in my new front yard pond yet, but plan to have lotuses living there. I will never, ever, EVER put water lettuce in my ponds. I know what happens. |

Steve, I know you said you would NEVER put water lettuce in your pond but it has so many beneficial effects on the pond...filtration of nitrates and it provides shade and coverage (protection) for the fishies. Plus it is a great place for fish to lay their eggs and for the youngins to hang out. The best part is when you get tooooo many just throw them in the compost pile. Or give them to a friend who needs them. I love water lettuce and hyacinth as floaters...they do wonders for the waater gardens.\ Bill |

I was kind of half kidding, Bill, but truth is I never have had water lettuce. What you said though - definitely. All good. Personally, if I'm going to have a population problem, I'd rather lotus than lettuce. |

Where are you in NC? That umbrella palm looks cool! Make sure any of the water lettuce and water hyacinth that you throw away are DEAD!!!! They are causing many huge problems in waterways because they choke out everything else. Same with the pickerels too. I have 1 Curly rush, 1 Lizard's Tail (native plant), and an Elephant Ear in my small pond/ waterfall. |

my extras go in a compost pile not any where near water...i hate the thought of corrupting a native environment. my umbrella palm has had so many babies too...at first it looked awful and would not grow then all of a sudden it grew and i have about 9 or 10 babies. wish i could give them away. |
