My cattle ate my hostas....I know, it sounds like a soap opera ![]() anyway, I'm not too experienced growing hostas, do you think they'll grow new leaves this year, or will I have to wait until next year? I know probably none of you have had the exact same problem, but was just wondering if they'd come back this year. |

They probably won't make a reappearance this year but luckily they will come back next year. Hostas must be tasty because the deer like to eat them also. Bad cow! |

A few years ago I had a new roof put on my house. The workers threw the old tiles on the ground on top of one of my Hosta beds. It was a couple of weeks before I could get them all cleaned up. I'm just a little old lady and don't lift all that much that fast. By the time I got to them the leaves were smashed and ruined. They did come back that summer. This happened in late spring. Timing, I'm sure is an issue. Also, the Hosta were very healthy and a strong variety. We have had a lot of success with Fertilome This One Works Deer Repellent. It has been successful for rabbits and deer. Let me know if it works on cattle. It tastes really, really bad. They may take a bite, but won't eat much. Spray once. Let it dry. Spray again. It has a latex base and plant will continue growing through coating. Spray new growth. Have you considered a Border Collie to make those cattle behave? They are remarkably smart dogs. Thanks, Gemma
