This has been an inspiration for me to want a much larger water feature. I love to feed my little goldfish and watch them eat, and hear the sound of the running water. John Attachments: ![]() |

Its a good spot for your puppy to get a drink too. I know exactly how relaxing that can be. I want to put something like it up as soon as we move but its going to have to wait till next year.

I just had to take a pic of some of my goldfish. Does anyone know how long it takes for a golfish to grow up? John Attachments: ![]() |

Gold fish will only grow to fit the space they are placed in. So they will stay small in a small space and get huge in a large space. They mature in about 2 years for females and a year for males. Most gold fish you buy at the pet store are about a year old. They are cute at that size and sell better. Placed in a tank they will most likely not get a whole lot bigger. In a pond you can expect them to try to spawn next spring when the water begins to warm. gold fish need the temp change to stemiulate them to spawn. As far as growing up i would say in the next 2 or 3 years your will max out in size for there container. If after 10 years you place them a a much larger pond they will begin to get larger again. I hope this helps you. |

They do grow quickly till they get to ther max size for there space then they slow way down and will put on weight instead of length like kids. |

Bugnut, Your little pond is very cute.I like the galvanized tub, it has a rustic look. I want an above ground pond some day, but I like the ones I have right now. Bill |

I just love the sound of splashing water. It's one of the most soothing I know. I'm glad for you, John, to have this new little bit of sunshine and happiness in your yard! Enjoy! |

Very nice little pond !!! That would be perfect for a large deck- it would bring you closer to the water more often. I have goldfish in my pond that are 5 yrs old this yr. I bought the 10 cent feeder fish and they were between 1 and 2 inches long. They now are range from 4 to 7 inches in length- 3 or 4 of the fish are about 7 inches. We have had some spawning in the spring the last couple yrs but most of the fry get eaten by the bigger fish. I dont intervene- I love the first sightings of the babies but let nature take its course. I'm not sure what your goals are in eventual fish size, but I'll tell you, you'll have just as much enjoyment with those smaller goldies as you would with any bigger fish !! |
