Bought this and planted but I think something else came up. Picture of seed package, flower and scan of leaf. Think it maybe a Hollyhock? I have planted hollyhock alongside the house from last years seeds, but in a remote location. The Hollyhocks were a very light purple. The only thing that came close was a grampa ott morning glore with a very deep purple picture on the package. This flower is not on a vine! Did a check of all the seed packages I bought and nothing comes close to this except the Morning Glory, but again these are not growing on a vine. Am I right? Attachments: ![]() |

Well, the leaf is definitely not Ipomoea. I does look like it could be Alcea (Hollyhock), which can be one of several shapes. Edit: Duh, on me...haven't had enough coffee this morning! Just realized you have a flower pic there! I believe your plant is Alcea rosea 'Nigra'. I know it's a long url-but I don't know how to shorten it. Sorry! Remove any spaces you might find-to make it work. http://www.dkimages.com/discover/DKIMAGES/Discover /Home/Plants/Classification/Tracheophyta/Magnoliop hyta/Magnoliopsida/Malvales/Malvaceae/Alcea/Alcea- rosea/Alcea-rosea-Nigra/Alcea-rosea-Nigra-3.html |

Thanks to all. Wonder where it came from? Glad it's here but wish I had more than one. Maybe collect some seeds for next year. |

What a wonderful volunteer! This year I had something like that happen- I planted Mexican Cigar Plant and cleomes grew instead I had cleomes in that spot 4 years ago, had a bunch of their seedlings come up during a winter warm spell and they all died when it got cold again. Didn't have any more there for 3 years, until now

Right you are Aurora. Here is a pic of the ones I planted. They are also along the house but on a different side. Don't know the name of these as I got the seeds from a sister of my wife. Maybe a combo of these two with some white ones next year planted as a group? Attachments: ![]() |
