We have Pampas Grass growing all over here- a lot of it in the medians on the interstate. Almost indestructible, but! If you have allergies-look out! When the 'bloom' starts to die, and the wind blows, it looks like snow and many people are allergic. I've never seen a pink one, though. When the ones on the interstate get too full of weeds or unwanted growth, they just burn em. They come back better than ever! |

Thats good to know my dad has been known to kill plants. He likes to plant stuff but never has any idea how to care for them. We all laugh becuause i love to garden but both of my parents kill everything they touch. I mostly do the bulk of the work for them . There job is to water its had to mess that up.

That is really a pretty pampas grass. I have a white one. Hasn't bloomed yet though. It is still to small. I'll have to try and find a pink one. |

I have the white one, Cotton Candy aka Sunningdale Silver. This specimen is two years old. I bought it from High Country Gardens. It was so little when it arrived but I found a happy spot for it and it thrives. I love to cut the plumes and put them in arrangements. The pink one is so pretty.

Both the pink and white Pompous grass are beautiful. How tall are they? I'm getting so I really like these ornamental grasses. Here is a picture of some we planted this spring. I'm not sure of the name, it doesn't get as tall as the pompous, I think it's about 4' at the tallest. I think it may be called millet grass. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks for the pictures, they are great. Vicky Attachments: ![]() |

healthy looking grass you have there. Is that a perennial or annual, the one I bought that is very similiar to that one, was a annual, shoot i should of looked at the packing more carefully. the grass i have is about 9 to 11 feet high (the plumes). it is a very very sturdy plant i must say. i need to take a pic of it in late summer instead of early fall, it doesnt look as lovely..lol |

Hey Vicky, your grass is called Purple Fountain Grass (Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum'), it's an annual around here. I first saw it about eight years ago in the courtyard at Evergreen Hospital. They had it planted in the center of containers then surrounded the grass with various coleus. As the coleus grew taller, it supported the grass which cascaded gently over the top-just stunning. I immediately duplicated their design except I used one color of coleus per 22" container(five coleus surround each grass)!~Andrea |
