I had some really nice sunflowers grown from seed that were about 2 ft. high. I thought since they had gotten through the bird-eating stage that they were sure to make it. Then, the other day, I noticed that all the nice leaves on top were eaten off. I had no idea that deer liked sunflowers. I'm figuring that it must have been deer because of the height. I guess it's too late now to start more from seed. I do still have some left, but the only "mammouth" sunflower that was left was de-leafed by the deer. So the rest of my sunflowers are going to be just a regular height of 4-6 ft. Well, now I know anyway.

I would still plant more- you should have enough time for at least a couple of blooms

Okay, I'm giving it another shot. Thanks for the encouragement. I don't know if they'll get to the full 12 ft., but hopefully they'll get pretty big anyway.

I know how you feel. It's so frustrating. If it's not one critter, it's another. |

I know how frustrating that is. We have herds of deer and they think my yard is a buffet. I use a product called Liquid Fence on a regular basis. Planting rosemary or mint in with your other plants will also deter them because they don't like the smell. |

Deer! Aaargh! Deer off and bobbex are good repellants too. Also chicken wire, lay it flat on the ground around your gardens. The deer hate stepping on it because it goes between their 'toes' (their hoof is 2 toes) and wont step on it to eat whats beyond. |
