Just a little tip to help you get rid of left over paint. I had several cans that had some left in it and of course the land fill does not want you to discard paint in the liquid form. Not good for the water table. So what I did was I spread out some plastic visqueen on the ground and then I took one can at a time and I poured the contents onto the plastic. I let that dry then repeated the process until I had emptied all my cans. I allowed the cans to dry… tops open so that the land fill would take them. Once the pant on the plastic had all dried I was able to discard it with the garbage. The land fill would take the dried paint on the plastic no questions asked.

I almost never have that problem. I mix paint together and tint it to the color that I want. It's a lot cheaper than buying regular paint--I buy the "Oops" paint that was mistinted for $5 a gallon. Although, sometimes it would be nice to just pick a color and have it mixed.

We just used 20 year old paint on my mom's vinyl siding and it worked like a charm. Unless it's dried up on it's own I don't discard it. If I didn't have room to store it then I'd probably let it dry and toss it. Spredaing it out like that would definitely cut the drying time. Good idea!

This is a great idea I moved into this home and found large buckets of paint very old, in the garage..its still there for the reason you mentioned. Once a year the city dump will let you bring anything to them but I'll have to wait till 2009 or do it your way...I'm thinking....

You could always "freecycle" the paint.Someone maybe able to use it..I just gave away tons of quarts from when I was trying to find the right color for the kitchen.

We can put old paint in our regular garbage if we put rags or newspaper down into the can to soak up what is left and let it get good and dry. I am glad I don't have to go through the plastic/dry process.

Just think a yard sale with nothing but old paint.

We have a special location we can take it too and drop it off free. Then they sort out the good stuff for the swap shop and the bad stuff THEY dispose of properly. I have dropped off stuff and gotten free stuff too.

I rarely have left over paint, but twice a year we have "trash bashes" where you can bring ANYTHING and they will dispose of it for you. My left over paint is used to paint the handles of my garden tools so I CAN FIND THEM WHEN I LEAVE THEM LAYING AROUND!! I have aqua blue handled rake and coral pink handled hoe, and white hand tools, and red shovel handle, and a Purple bench and oh so many strange colored things...

Your garden could be called the 'Over the Rainbow Garden". Cool ideas.

We can drop off leftover paint and other hazardous materials that you don't want at the landfill and they lend out all the usable materials to people who might need just a little bit of something to use it up. I have dropped off old machine oil and tire cleaners. I think it's a really clever idea.
