Do any of you wear flip flops when gardening? Normally I don't but twice in the past week I have wandered out to do gardening chores in my flip flops and lived to regret it. The first time I cut my toe and had to have a tetanus shot. I apparently am a slow learner. This afternoon I went out just to water a few things and as I wandered through a spread of liriope I caught my toe on a limb that was hidden. There is no graceful way to fall and all I can say is I'm glad no one was around to see me except the cat. Thankfully there were no injuries. I do have a friend who had an accident recently where she tripped on her flip flops and broke both legs. I should learn a lesson.

Flip-flops, crocs and barefoot-my main gardening footwear. I'm diabetic and not supposed to go barefoot at all. I told my doc-I can give up the sweets and I can stop drinking, but I don't know if I can quit going barefoot!!

Funny that you should mention that. Just two days ago, one of my girlfriends walked off into the "rough" in her flipflops, got tangled up on something and cut her foot really badly. Now she can't garden or go swimming for a while. I guess when you get to be my age, falling is not an option, so I gave up the flipflops for sensible shoes in the garden. (Oh, how I loved my flops, too.)

I don't find flip flops all that dangerous..I have mostly ran bare footed flips allow me to do that at random..and still claim "oh yeah I have shoes silly here they are". Crocs I love also, only you don't want to clean up the yard near the Hercules trees the thorns will go right on through the sole. Nor do you want to burn brush while wearing them just think slick tire treads..because after that job you prob won't have treads left.

I have a pair of muck shoes that I usually slip on when I go outside. They are very comfortable, waterproof, and you just can't wear them out. But, flip flops are very cool and carefree.

I'm like wolf I can't stand open toed sandals of any kind. I'd rather be barefoot. But when I garden I wear my old tennis shoes or a pair of slip-on deck shoes to protect my feet from holly leaves and various unexpected objects that might turn up. Besides, I inevitably find something that needs to be dug, and must have shoes to wield my shovel.

I've had contusions of the pinky toe on my right foot so many times it's not funny so I don't wear anything but well covered things on my feet. Once I even did it putting huarache sandals on. I have one pair of heavy banded sandals I wear about twice a year. Otherwise I've got shoes of some sort on. I can't sleep without my feet covered up most of the time either because of that. I haven't had flipflops in years.

I wore figure skates for most of my childhood thru teen years and have many bone spurs. Since I have to wear heels at work everyday - I am barefoot for the rest of the time. I chagrin at having to put on flip flops to go to the store! I save the sneakers and boots for the hiking trips at the state park and early spring/fall gardening.
