My name is Dan. I stumbled on this site while looking for some information about using lemon basil. Funny how things happen. I have a small home garden that was originally sand and weeds...wasted space. I put up a 6ft chain link fence thinking I would keep our German Shepherds in there if we had company over and they were in the way. The dogs are too well-behaved and too much a part of the family to keep pinned up, so the fence now keeps them out of my garden area. I have raised beds with fortified soil and a drip system. Some of you never have to water since you get rain. Out here we have to water our grass if we want it to stay green. The drip system is very efficient and only uses a third of the water, cuts down on weeds and disease. Check out my pictures. I'm happy with the results of my small garden. We grow chiles, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. It's pretty therapeutic since my work tends to be stressful...I'm a school administrator. Best of luck to all of you with your gardens. It's certainly a lot of fun for me. |

Welcome to Garden Guides, dan. Worked in the school system, did ya? I'm an old retired teacher. You want to talk about stress? hahaha I haven't looked at your pictures yet, but I will. I hope that you will enjoy checking out all the forums and having fun! |

Welcome to GG from WI, Dan! Saw the pictures of your garden, and really loved seeing the peppers and maters almost ready to make some great salsa. I've planted a salsa garden the past couple of years almost our of necessity, as we go through tomatoes like crazy in the summer. The lemon basil I'm afraid I have no experience with, have grown almost every other type of basil, tho... ![]() My cilantro will certainly be jealous of how huge your plants are, shall have to show them the picture of those healthy happy plants as incentive. Mine are just starting to get established, we've had a really damp and cold spring up here. Thanks for joining us, feel free to "dig 'round" a bit, and have fun!

Nice pictures. Sounds like gardening can be a challenge where you live. I can relate to the need for therapy. I am a school counselor and there are definitely days when I go to the garden to de-stress. Hope you are able to relax a bit for the summer. |

Thanks. We took a trip to San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, our son's 21st birthday and our daughter's 18th birthday. Lots to be thankful for. |
