HELP! My water lily pads are turn yellow. I know that as the leaves age they tend to turn yellow and I pick them off but lately many, many of the lily pads are turning yellow. I am wondering if it is because it has been unseasonably HOT here in North Carolina. I try to use fertilized tablets about once a month - any suggestions? This spring it looked GREAT but I am concerned as I have less and less lily pads compare pics 1 (sunny photo) and 2 (close up). I have also noticed that the water lettuce is also turning yellow while the lettuce in the other round pond dark green. Could it be too much sun?
HELP!
Bill

What a lovely water garden! I'm like you. I am concerned about all these unnaturally hot days that we have had. I've never seen it this hot in June. Perhaps the plants are as though they have been steamed. I wish I had a remedy for you.

Yes, it could be too much sun. Doesn't look to me like too much damage though, and I expect they'll replenish pretty quickly, don't you?

I don't think lily pads can get too much sun, geez look at Florida!!!
I'll safely say just remove the yellow/brown ones and let there be room for more new pads. The percentage of yellowing pads you have is not a concern.

I've noticed that the lettuce plants in our pond are turning yellow more and more with the high temptures here. I don't think we have too many left right now. I really don't think they do well with full sun and high temptures. Some of our lily's are getting yellow leaves. I was thinking that all the little thunderstorms we are getting everyday then the sun comes up right afterward might be scorching them. Of course that is just my opinion and I'm pretty new to this stuff. We just keep cutting off the yellow leaves and hope for the best.

Are the water lettuce annuals for you as they are here in zone5 MI?
I don't think it is too much sun I think they are crowded a little or your pH went off for a minute there Or they lived their life and leaving room for the babies they had. My Lettuce turns yellow and dies after it reproduced like mad.But.... I'm cooler here and it was in or around late October last year.I started to loose them. Are you aware that their roots just may go mad and clog up your filter? They were a terrible long dragged out job to work with last year. Duck weed...nightmare for my filter and life,I still love those tiny adorable little crazy plants and put them in my mini features

Your blooms are marvelous!
Mine bloomed real late in the season last year, they are annuals here can't even over winter, they die.
What kid of filters are you running?

I have a "pull out by cord and take filter off and hard spray clean" kinda filter,1,000 gal per hour.I have a 90 gal pond and several small no filter water gardens.

How long have you been water gardening?
Your Pond/ water gardens are delightful.

Have a Great Ponding Day!
