Can I plant sunflower seeds in August for a November blooming?

I would say absolutely YES. I am still planting sunflowers ( I just re-fell in love with them again this year). Some of mine were volunteers from my birdfeeders.

I forgot to ask you, do you get frost in Houston? I dont think they can withstand a frost. Most of the packaged ones say they bloom in about 80 days after sowing. So make sure the cold doesnt get them.

Thanks for that info, fg. My volunteers are getting really tall, but no flowers yet. They are starting to bud up. I didn't realize that it took so long! I guess I never paid much attention till GG.
I think that Houston gets frosts about the same time that we do, but I'm not sure. It doesn't hurt to give it a try.

I am in same zone as Houston-Sunflowers can make it to November if we don't have a frost. Sometimes we don't have frost until January, and some Sunflowers will bloom 65-70 days, but I don't remember which ones-I just plant em and smile!

I have had sunflowers last till christmas and then i have had years where they were gone by thanksgiving so it depend on if we have a mild year but i would plant them and keep on going.
