Can I plant sunflower seeds in August for a November blooming?

I would say absolutely YES. I am still planting sunflowers ( I just re-fell in love with them again this year). Some of mine were volunteers from my birdfeeders. Attachments: ![]() |

I forgot to ask you, do you get frost in Houston? I dont think they can withstand a frost. Most of the packaged ones say they bloom in about 80 days after sowing. So make sure the cold doesnt get them. |

Thanks for that info, fg. My volunteers are getting really tall, but no flowers yet. They are starting to bud up. I didn't realize that it took so long! I guess I never paid much attention till GG. I think that Houston gets frosts about the same time that we do, but I'm not sure. It doesn't hurt to give it a try. |

I am in same zone as Houston-Sunflowers can make it to November if we don't have a frost. Sometimes we don't have frost until January, and some Sunflowers will bloom 65-70 days, but I don't remember which ones-I just plant em and smile!

I'd go ahaed and plant them. They do grow fast

I have had sunflowers last till christmas and then i have had years where they were gone by thanksgiving so it depend on if we have a mild year but i would plant them and keep on going. |
