Anyone have any idea what these are? What do I do to get rid of them? I found one the other day and killed it. Now I find what looks like 4 dead ones on the ground and one more clinging to a vine. I sprayed insecticide on the area after finding the first one and sprayed some more now. (bayer advanced) I was going to try an organic pesticide..but since there are no berries on the vines now...figured I'd go with the strong stuff. Looks like a caterpillar... Notice one of them has a bunch of white stuff all over it...i hope those aren't eggs... AAAHHH I HATE INSECTS!! Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

There's a type of wasp that lays it's eggs on caterpillars as a host and I wonder if that's what those white things are. I don't think they'd be on the body of the caterpillar if they were caterpillar eggs but I could be wrong. "If you find a hornworm or other caterpillar with small white sacks on its back, leave it alone. The sacks contain the larvae of a small wasp that preys on the hornworm and other caterpillars. " http://www.a-garden-diary.com/pests.htm There's a little bit about it here, too. http://animals.howstuffworks.com/insects/caterpill ar4.htm To find out specifially what kind of caterpillars you are you could try looking through the ones online for your state. Or call your local county extension office. They might be able to tell you. Hope that helps! Hope that helps!
