I would like to know how to plant mexican sunflower seeds. I bought a packet of its seeds and planted them and until now nothing came up, not even one.

are sunflower seeds choosy when it comes to soil?

Do you mean Tithonia? It's not an actual "Sunflower"- Helianthus.
I planted some for the first time this year and they have all come up. I forgot to write down the dates though I think they took about 2 weeks... I direct sowed mine. Some are in the shade, and others in full sun, with a couple of clumps in nasty clay "soil".

Eight years ago when I bought my house I planted 'mexican sunflower' seeds for my rock garden. I am still getting volunteers as they bloom and reseed themselves! Best investment I ever made! As for soil, my front yard tends to be rich, though at the time I had done nothing to improve it - I just direct sowed and they grew. Is the seed packet outdated? Maybe a little creature found the seeds and ate them - I'd try again - they grow pretty quickly.
