Park Seed Co is close to a 2-hour drive from me. The city is having it's festival of flowers this month, highlighted this weekend with tours of the test gardens at Park Seed, seed sales, and a Q/A session with Paul James from HGTV. Has anyone ever been? I'm being a gas tightwad these days but might check this out if it's worth the trip.

I've always wanted to go to one of those, pg. Do you know the date? We're being more frugal about driving too, but a hundred miles for an entire day looking at one of the largest and best gardens in the Southeast might not be too much of a sacrifice.

It's this weekend. The link is http://www.scfestivalofflowers.org. There are other things going on as well (if I go we will probably stick around for the bluegrass). Park Seed has a link on the festival page.

I went last year for the Master Gardener day and that place is just grand.

I did not know until after we came home that this is really a city wide celebration. So much going on. So if you are close enough jump in the car, bite the gas price and take a joy ride to Park Seed. Their sister company Wayside Gardens is on up the road aways from there. You can hit two in one trip.

The picture is of one of the many flower beds.

Ohh. This weekend. Hmm. Dang. I couldn't have done it even with more advance notice. Ah well. Next year . . .

Excuse my ignorance of geography, but I thought that Wayside was down in Georgetown or was it Charleston? Park Seed is up in Greenwood, right?

I read that Wayside Gardens was bought out by Park Seed in 1975 and moved to Greenwood...or, rather, Hodges SC. We've decided to go and make a full day of it, particularly since we love bluegrass music about as much as we love gardening. I'll take the camera and hopefully get some good pictures to share. I can't figure out this digital camera thing. I digitally impaired. Thanks for sharing your picture, Linda. Looks like we will be enjoying ourselves immensely!

Can you visit Park Seed Co. at other times as well, or only during the festival?
Where is Greenwood exactly?

You can visit the gardens at other times. I believe they are open Monday through Saturday. I'm not sure if the garden tours are done on Saturday normally but you could check their website at www.parkseed.com and see. Greenwood is sort of in the northwest part of SC about 1hr 45min from Columbia.

I'd go to see Paul James. He's adorable! Don't tell my husband.
