My wonderful and generous neighbor ladies got together and bought me the HUGEST Boston fern I have ever seen in my life- the thing literally covers my entire coffee table. I have never tried to grow one of these luscious beauties because I've heard they're pretty tough to maintain. Now, I went right to my garden books, and got differing info- mist, don't mist, water alot, don't water alot, full shade, full sun..... anyone have success with them ?? |

Boston Ferns prefer shade, misting is good if you live in an area with low humidity. Water often. They get root bound really quick, and are thirsty plants. If they dry out they SHED like crazy! My ex-husband's aunt has a HUGE ONE that is potted in a wire basket about the size of a small laundry basket and is hanging from the limb of a beautiful live oak with a chain. Every winter, they climb up there and wrap it. Cool weather doesn't effect it much, COLD weather does. |
