Hi txrose - I have not heard anything about seeds, only ripe fruit. They cleared California because their crops weren't ripe so I don't think the seeds are the problem. They just cleared Florida tomatoes as safe. Thank God!

Makes me ever so glad to have a few growing in my backyard and having a local farmers market is even better.

The governing agency really needs an overhaul and more employees. LB

I have since posting read a few articles. Seems that a 64 yr old woman died of poisoning here in texas. Also, another person after eatting pico degio.
I'm wondering if anyone knows the reason yet? I'm glad to hear Fl. cleared.

I went to Hardee's for a quick lunch today and they had a sign up that tomatoes were not available at this time on certain selections. Now.. what is a burger without tomato???? I got the mushroom and swiss burger...I'll get my regular burger at home and add my own home grown tomato to it. So glad I grow my own...wonder what food is next??

Anything you are growing at home is fine. Any seeds are fine. Also, any tomatoes that you purchase WHOLE are fine, if you WASH them well BEFORE cutting. The problem arose from tomatoes that were contaminated on the outside and cut with out washing thus passing the contaminates into the flesh of the tomatoes. Then the fact that these tomaotes were served fresh and not cooked (which would have killed this particular contaminate) only allowed it to be passed on to the consumer for consumsion. Any tomatoes that are cooked proprely will also not be a problem.

here is the thing I kinda worried about though. Taco Bueno (a fast food mexican food place here i don't know if they are all over) is not serving tomatoes or pico on anything, but the thing is i used to work there and they make their own hot sauce out of pre-cut bagged tomatoes, and they are still serving that... it makes me a bit nervous. I remember a few years back when i worked there and there was a really bad tomato crop that year and we would still get the tomatoes but only serve them if requested by the customer and those smelled soooo bad and they were all slimey. i don't know it kinda worries me about eating out. but a'last i am too lazy (busy) to cook

Makes me wish I had planted some this year. I'll put that on my list for next year.
