I am starting a new thread on growing Lotus from seeds, so I don't feel that I was high jacking LilyCrazy's thread.
I nicked 5 seeds and put them in warm water here on my computer desk on the 5th of Jun.
On the 7th of Jun I took a photo of how the seeds had swollen.
Today the 9th of Jun I have 4 out of 5 seeds sprouting, just in 4 days.
The photo of the flower is of a couple of blooms that I picked to show my wife. I collected 40 or 50 seed pods.
After a couple of years trying to germinate some of these seeds with no success LilyCrazy gave the link to some good advice.
I will keep you up to date.
John

LC, there is a big pond down the road from me that is full of these. I go there just to look at the huge flowers and leaves.

It's just been one day since my last update, and look how fast these things are growing.

Today's update, It is over 4 inches tall. All five of the seeds that I started have sprouted, I took one of them and put it in a five gallon bucket with potting soil in the bottom and filled with rain water. That is where I tried to start the seeds before I found out how to get them to germinate. We will see. I will post the progress every day.

This morning the seedlings are climbing out of the one quart jar. I have had all these seeds for a few years and like I said before tried several different ways to grow, but I never had an idea about all the energy inside the seed just waiting to be set free.

I moved these three seedlings to a 8 inch bucket, as you can see they are starting a second shoot. I put the other two seedlings in a five gallon bucket of rain water, they are doing well also.

How exciting !!! Congratulations !! Within the next couple shoots you'll start to see little leaves. Isn't it rewarding to watch these little boogers grow

After just five weeks, one of my lotus seed leaves is five inches across.
I'm expecting an aerial leaf any day soon!!
