Hi, I just bought a large Cuphea llavea. It says it's an annual and likes full sun. I'm just a newbie when it comes to plants and flowers, so bear with me! lol. My plant is, or should I say, was pretty until I brought it home. It's looking all "crowded" and sickly. Kind of like it might die. Am I supposed to pick off flowers or what? Does humidity harm it? It says easy care on my plant info tag! The lady I bought it from told me to water it every two days. I've been doing that. I live in Wisconsin...New Berlin. I don't know even what "Zones" are. I know it refers to different states, etc., in which plants/flowers grow better. Does anyone have a reference for Zones? I would appreciate that too. I feel so dumb. Thanks for any kind of info! I need all the help I can get.

You are zone 5B (at least the New Berlin, Wisconsin City hall is. I used their address to look it up. LOL).

I have three of the red/purple variety - Bat Face and her sisters which are new this year. Then found one in all purple. It is really pretty. My experience is that it takes them a week or so to settle in after being moved from their pots. After that they are good to go. If your plant is in the ground it might need watering a bit more often than if it is in a pot. Good luck with your Cuphea, they are really nice plants. My neighbor had the first one last year, we discussed whether it would winter over, so she covered it with a lot of pine straw and both of them came back this spring. So now we know they can come back for us here in SC zone 8. Linda B from SC |
