my dh brings home HUGE bags of cross cut shredded checks from his work. It actually makes a great mulch for my tomato beds. The white may look silly but it works

so if it works for tomato beds I should be able to use it in the blueberry bed and asperagus also right ????

I would think it would be great for any plant! It's really just paper after all...

Be careful with that paper, my friends. A lot of low-grade commercial paper is acid-rich. If your soil is already high acid, you're going to get some major damping off the first time it rains on that paper mulch. Also if it is cross-shredded into very small pieces, it will compact on the ground and block the air.

So be cautious, and sparing in its use. I recommend composting it first. It mixes excellently with manure.

Thanks I am west of the mississippi so we are not high acid here... but if that is true it will help the blueberries wouldn't it.hmmmm
I put it on about 3 inches thick and once it is watered it quickly goes down to less than an inch and the water has no problems getting through. in fact the soil is less compacted at the end of the season than if I left it bare.
