This shrub grows on the side of the house that we are never on and I just love this shrub when it is in bloom. It has been neglected and really needs a new home - I'm thinking of trying to 'root a shoot' and move it into the back yard where we can better appreciate it. Anyone recognize it? (OOPS, didn't rotate the second pic before I uploaded it )

Looks like Mock Orange to me-relative of the dogwood. |

Does it have a sweet wonderful scent like an orange blossom? |

They are supposed to have a sweet fragrance. Yours looks good. I'd root a shoot or two! |

I have one of those also. My mother in law gave me a piece of hers. She called it English Dogwood but I have looked it up and found it under another name. Of course, it's been a while and I don't remember the name. |

Yes, it does look like Philadelphus coronarius, (Sweet) Mock Orange (although it could be one of the other Mock Orange). |

It does smell wo nderful, which is one of the reasons I love it. So I'll try rooting a sprig or two. I tried a 'martha stewart' rooting approach, bending down a branch, injuring a spot, applying root-tone and burying it, but it never took, and it is difficult to find a branch that is easy to bend down to bury, so I'll just try a branch, root tone and plant it and see what happens. Thanks everyone! |
