Has anyone had any luck with germinating redwood seeds?

Never tried, Good luck!
Would they even be able to grow in VA?

It depends on whether they're coastal or giant sequoias. I've never had the patience to try either but the local growers have told me giant sequoias are fairly easy to germinate, with a little soaking first. I've bought several hundred seedlings for less than a buck a piece the last few years. It's cheap and gives you a jump on the growth. They don't like their roots disturbed so make sure you grow them in deep pots until planting out. Here's a picture of seedlings (8") I planted 7 years ago (picture taken in March). They really grow after a couple of years.

What beautiful trees BMan & they do seem to be growing fairly quickly too, by the looks of them.

That's a gorgeous place you have there, BMan! Anyone who hasn't checked out his copious photos, I highly recommend perusing them. Spectacular orchids.
