It is possible to grow a Magnolia from a cutting. I would recommend buying a bottle of root stimulator. Simply cut off the branch, put the recommended amount of stimulator into a cup or whatever, and wait usually about 10 days and then plant. It needs to be a young, tender branch instead of a bigger, older one. The root stimulator is rather expensive, usually around 20 bucks, but you can keep it and use it for many other cuttings. Let me know how it goes!!

A word of caution about magnolia trees. They are great to look at and evergreen, but be aware they do shed their leaves in the late spring and are pretty ugly spread over the lawn. I've been spending most mornings out raking them up lately. And they shed large hard seedpods the size of hand grenades. You know when you hit one with the mower. (BANG) If I had my way, I'd be rid of mine. |
