I'm so proud of myself. I'm laid off for a month. I'm almost 2 weeks in to it. And i'm decluttering my house. If you have ever heard of the U.S. 12 garage sales in August they run as far as U.S. 12 goes. This is in MIchigan. I have wanted to declutter for years. The clutter makes me upset. Lot of it came from garage sales. But i know to only buy want i need. It was a learning thing. If your thinking of decluttering i hope i have helped you to want to do it....Off to more decluttering. Hello, declutterer! I also am always decluttering (it seems). Last winter, I went through my closet/drawers. I had lots of skirts, with nothing to wear with them and blouses/sweaters with nothing to wear with them. Some things actually made me feel guilty, because someone gave them to me, but I never really liked them, or they didn't look right on me, etc. So I got rid of all that was taking up space. Now when I look in my closet/ drawers I don't feel guilt or think "I need to find something to go with that". Hope this helps anyone else out there.

I Love Clutter!!! More is more and less is a bore. I am actually going to some yard sales in the morning. I hope I can get more good junk.
Seriously, sometimes you do have to let things go. Organization is key, and I have tried most of my life to keep things organized. But it is never ending.

I am really looking forward to having the time to declutter years of cluttering now that I am retired. I think I'll feel more in control of my life and like a real weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now --- if only I can decide where to start!!!!

The older I get the more I want to declutter. So far I am working on paperwork.. getting rid of the old and storing what is important. Some of it I am putting into binders for easier access. If it is not something my kids will want in the future.. out it goes! Now you all know I collect information for my family tree and all of that stays, that is my documentation for my sources. I keep lots of old pictures etc and am putting them on acid free paper which I put into archival sheets for protection, with notes added underneath the photo or article so my kids will understand why I kept it.LOL

I have a long way to go on the paper stuff before I get started on the basement!

Chatty-

Where can I buy acid free paper and "archival sheets"? I need to preserve some of my husband's family's recipes, photos, etc. (mostly paper stuff) and couldn't figure out how to best do it. An search on the Internet left me overwhelmed. Can you tell me briefly how you go about doing it?

I feel lucky to have moved myself about 6 times in the 4 years after I graduated from college, so I never have clutter. If I don't use something at least once every 6-12 months, it goes in the trash! It made it easy to sell my last 2 houses-they both sold to the first people who came to look at them.

I've been decluttering too--ain't it AMAZING what you find at the bottom of the closet?! Did you know that you can write off donations to thrift stores on your taxes? Get receipts for your donations!

LOL--the US 12 yard sale sounds like Kentucky's 400 mile garage sale along hwy 68! Hmmmm...sounds like I have an excuse to visit my Aunt Sandy in Chelsea...she lives right on Old US 12.

Well welcome to the land of GG Nofish. Long time no see. I would think a hobby store would be a good place to start, or call a local museum/library to see if they know of a source.

Hope you can keep up the no clutter routine. Most of us are the obtain, toss, hang, and then do it over again without regard of what we already have.

Actually my gardens have become a bit that way. So I am journalling(sp?) this year to see what needs to be replaced and what has duplicated itself. Then I will have lots of fun in the spring sharing and purchasing some newer varieties.

Pat Catan, Joann Fabric and Crafts, Michaels, certain Walmart's all have a scrap- booking section and they'll have archival quality paper, photo corners, sleeves, pens, inks, doodads for highlighting, and lots of other things to preserve your memorabilia. There's an archival spray you can get for paper products that aren't acidfree to make them acidfree.
If you have photos in those old magnetic albums from the 1960's and 70's, it might be wise to either try to remove them into other albums or scan or even photograph them to make new copies to be put into acidfree storage. I know I have lots of those old albums and the pages are getting brown spots and some of the pictures are changing color. I did manage to keep all my negatives -- if I ever find them!! haha

My house is decorated in Chaotic Arts and Crafts and I come from a long list of them before me. I'm trying to declutter here and there, but it seems to multiply like rabbits or one of my kids comes back home and I have their stuff, too!

Anyone else watch Clean House with Niecey Nash? I've gotten lots of ideas from that. The physcology of packrattedness was a real eye-opener.
