I was given several hollyhock seeds from my mother-in-law and she said they were heirlooms. I planted all of them 2 or 3 weeks ago and have seen nothing yet. I know she will eventually ask me about them and I would love to tell her they are doing fabulous. However, I have seen very few seedlings show up and I planted her hollyhocks more than anything else. Hopefully they will appear. How long do they usually take or maybe I have to wait a year or so? I've never been all that good at seed planting. Any suggestions?

I planted some in the fall and haven't seen anything yet. I hope they'll sprout when/if it gets hot, but my track record with seeds isn't so great either.

Seems like they should be up by now. We planted some from the Dollar General and they havent come up yet either. I am going to wait it out. I think they will come up.

When I think of all the seed that fall to the ground and all the ones I have thrown here and there, and see how few actually come up, it is no wonder you are not seeing scads of your seeds germinating.

I do think it has been too cool here in SC and that Fairygardens may well still come up, and it has been really cold where you are Mama - so patience may win in the end.

My rosy red is way over my head now (this is the third year - two for blooming) and my new 'almost' black (this is the second year) is blooming. I had forgotten how much I really liked HH. LB

I wouldn't know about HH seeds. I do love Hollyhocks, even though I don't have any growing this year.

Yeah, I've had problems with them too. I figured they were just the kind of seeds that take forever to germinate. I gave up after not seeing anything for 3 weeks.

Have you posted any photos of your 'almost' black ones? I think I saw your lovely red ones in your 'My Garden' album.

Going to check on that now and if not I will post them in the Garden album.

Thanks for the reminder. It was a beautiful plant. And I did save seeds for it as well I am hoping it will reseed for the spring.
