Has anyone ever used this?

After reading up on Miracle Grow (don't hit me with a stick) I decided to look for organic alternatives.

I started composting, but that will take some time. I have tested my soil and it is a bit low in Nitrogen (P & K are abundandt though).

I found a link of Organic Fertilizers that had been rated by the users and ProtoGrow came out on top -- so I thought I'd try it. A little pricey -- but if it does well, I might have a winner.

It should be here in just a few days and I have not fertilized anything in the last couple of weeks -- and Miracle Grow suggests every 7-14 days, so I'm just holding off until this stuff comes so that I can test it out. But if anyone else has tried it -- let me know what you think

Well, it came in today.

I took my ProtoGrow and diluted it as suggested and after I re-potted the Brussels -- I gave them some. I also added it to the tomatoes and peppers and gave many of the perennial bushes a little too.

Now -- afterward -- trying to walk through the yard was asphyxiating... this is the worst smelling stuff I have ever used, lol

I'm hoping it was worth it though

Maybe the more it stinks, the better it works!

Looks to be similar to Neptune's Harvest, which is what I use. Yeah boy it stinks! Neptune's Harvest is a bit lower cost, but when you think about it, neither product is very expensive when used in the recommended dosages.

Your soil is unusual for our region. Typically our Southern Appalachian soil is high in N but lacking in P and K. Maybe because you're way up high in the mountains, whereas most of us Katuah-dwellers are in the valleys.

Witt!! I HOPE that is the case, lol

Steve -- I thought it odd also, based upon what I was reading... maybe it does have something to do with the elevation?

I saw the Neptune's Harvest too, when I was researching. I think they do have the same baisc ingedients... ProtoGrow is mainly northern sea kelp and fish emultion (I probably spelled that wrong)

We fed our veggies a little fish emulsion today. Drew a lot of flies.

YES! It really DOES attract flies!

We're due for rain this evening... but I'm not sure if we'll get it. Since this fertilizer is the kind you feed to the foliage, hopefully the plants have soaked up what they need and some rain will wash away a bit of the smell and get rid of the flies.

Neptune's harvest is an excellent product fort the price especially when used as directed. Be sure to only dilute the amount of fertilizer need for each application, and you will eliminate any issues with oder. if you store any unused diluted leftovers you will certainly put your senses to the test.

So, what are people thinking with Protogrow? I've been using it for about 6 weeks and would say the leaves are amazingly deep in color and - unlike other fertilizers- think it actually has been postponing flowering and concentrating on internal strengthening. But, this could all be in my head.

Hello Hampton, I was wondering how often you use ProtoGro since there doesn't seem to be any information concerning application frequency where I have looked. I have not read in any of the blogs where people quote how often they use ProtoGro. How much is too much? Thanks in advance for your response. Peace, LG
