I am so fed up, all my roses are absolutely laden with aphids, both white and green, then some type of black fly, then agreen worm. I dont know what to do anymore, nothing seems to work and I dont want to use harsh chemicals in my garden. Should I cut them down and uproot or what can be done? I have never wseen roses so badly infected. |

This year I just discovered a line or organic products "-Pharm" - I got the RosePharm - it's pink! - mostly oils of something or another and it got rid of green aphids on my climber. It's supposed to weigh down black spot spores to slow spread of that, too, but luckily I don't have that on my two roses at this point. I found it at a nursery. The ol' garden hose full blast might slow them down some, and then there is the murphy's oil in water spray too. HOpe that helps! |

This is the first I've heard of Murphy's Oil as a spray! I have a bottle of that. Do tell! |

It's just a smothering agent - I'm not exactly sure of the proportions, but let's say you have a quart spray bottle - fill it about an inch or less with murphy's oil soap, then fill (carefully so as not to make suds) with water. Once you are comfortable with the proportions I'd add the water first. |

I live over in Europe so I know they wont carry that product and I am just tired of all these terrible bugs, flies, crawlies and jumpers that I am seeing. Today I sprayed the buggers with warm soap and water, it didnt PHASE them any . Then there is this black thing that looks like poppy seed all over the stems, I thought they were ants, but that is something else and really creepy. I have noticed this on most flowering plants

Dead FedUp, here is a recipe that will kill just about any living pest on your roses, plus keep the furry ones away. Tried and true. pint of hot peppers 1 bulb of garlic 2 tbs dish soap 2tbs vege oil 1 5 gallon bucket and 4 gallons of water cheese cloth Puree the peppers and galic then add a little water and puree more. Add pepper mix to water and cover. Let sit over night. Starin through cheese cloth into a 2 gallon garden sprayer. Add soap and oil. Spray plants leaves stems and around the trunks on the ground. DO NOT Spray in the heat of the day or when the plants are in direct sun as it can burn the plants. Must be reapplied after rain or watering. See if it works for ya hope this helps Sass |

Hi Sass Wow, that sounds potent, will it work for other pests on my tomatoes, peppers etc or only roses? I will definitely try it, what kind of hot peppers? Any variety or must it be habaneros? |

Any type of hot pepper. I use jalepenos (sp?), just because I used to keep them for my brother when he would visit, he could eat a whole jar. I would expect it to work on other things than roses, I just never tried. keep me informed. Sass |
