We've been making phone calls and it has been next to impossible to find someone to remove two dead trees and an almost dead flowering almond shrub! We don't want to look at dead trees all summer!

What's up with the landscape companies? These wouldn't be such huge jobs as we're talking two somewhat small trees and one shrub. If we were younger, we'd probably do it ourselves.

Do you have any tree services or tree doctors in your area? You might also try your local extension office to see if they have anybody to recomend.

The tricky part here is that they must now have insurance to cover not only their workers but any property they may damage and that is expensive (just like a doctor must carry malpractise insurance). Many companies don't want to mess with it.

Is there any chance they are near utility lines? Here in Iowa, if a dead tree poses a risk to a utility line, the utility company that owns the line MUST remove it for you. They may charge you for the labor but they must provide it.

If I were closer, I could help. we used to heat with wood and when I moved to the "Burbs" I still had to chainsaw 6 dead trees on this small lot. I am in the process of taking out 11 palm trees out of my mother-in-laws lot. I'm a chain saw granny!

Hey, VIvky gave me an idea. We have freecycle.com and reuseit.com here and people often offer the wood free to anybody that will come cut it down.

My husband is a tree surgeon. He says to look in the yellow pages and summon all the tree companies. Get your best price and go from there. MamaBear was right on about the insurance. They must be insured and bonded. Landscape companies are clueless about tree removal. This is definitely not their speciality. Good luck. Wish I lived closer, we could help.
