I would like to grow some potatoes. What kind of fertilizer should I use? How do I go about planting the potatoe? How long should I wait before checking for potatoes? |

Your profile shows your location as Miami-you are way too far south now for potatoes. However, they can be planted in the fall, actually mid to late August. Miami is pretty far south, so I would check with your local Ag. extension agency. We plant red potatoes here in South Louisiana. I use cow/horse manure (rotted, not green), regular 8-8-8 fertilizer and till VERY well. Dust your potato cuttings with Lime, plant about 2" deep. As plants come up, work dirt, or you can put mulch or hay around them. Takes about 3 months here. I'd still check with your local garden centers or Ag. agency. |
