My niece has tried for two years to grow a watermelon. This year she's planted four plants in my garden and the leaves are shriveling. She's 6 and I don't want her to be disappointed again this year. I'd love to save it if there's anyway to do so, but I know nothing about watermelon except how to eat it. Any suggestions or hints would be welcomed!!

I really wish I could help you! Hopefully some of the others who do a lot of veggie gardening will give advice so we can both learn!
BTW- my son is 6, and my daughter's 5, so I know how you feel

I wish I could help too. I too am trying to grow watermelons for the second time. Last year, the vines grew a bit and they began producing small watermelons, but then they shriveled up and died. If it isn't lack of water, then I can't really tell you how to remedy it.

this is short and sweet

spray any plant that vines with kop-r-spray, a anti fungal spray

you can buy this at your local gardening store, lowes or home depot

follow directions on container closely

fungs on ground during damp time of year this goes for squash, mellons, straw and so on

last but least put miracle grow (if that how you spell it)
again follow directions

happy gardening

Thanks getterdonedave. I sprayed fungicide on all of my vining plants this morning. Hope they all live and thrive this year.
