Smells like mum/daisy--weed or not?

When I moved into my house last spring there was a mystery plant growing beneath my dogwood tree. At that time (June) it was about 5-10" tall, no flowers, but the foliage smelled like mums or daisies. I ended up pulling as much of it out as I could because I assumed it was a weed (as it never flowered). It's back this year (major runners) and I'm not quite sure what to do with it--leave it or keep pulling it out. Does anyone know what it is?

With major runners and the fact that you have seen it over the course of almost a year, if you don't want it I would start getting rid of it. Any chance the former owners were using it as a ground cover. Your call. LB

Looks like the same weed I have growing all over. I believe its called mugwort, or wild chrysanthemum. I'd pull it.
here's a link- remove any spaces:

This is a great site for ID'ing lots of "weeds"

Thanks Aurora--that's got to be what it is. I'll just keep pulling it out and hope for the best!

Your welcome.
I "accidentally" introduced it to my yard a couple of years ago while rescuing plants. Thought the same thing you did. Now I'm in a battle to do away with it. It does make a pretty groundcover though, so I've been letting it grow in certain spots

Someone just gave me a pot of this stuff. I have been holding off planting it because I didn't know what it is. It looks as though it has some flower buds forming. Does yours flower at all??

It flowers, but they aren't very pretty. Very small and inconspicous.
