We moved into this new construction house about 2 years ago, and have finished a few projects here and there. We are far from done, but i think that we have done our best thus far! The builder didn't sod all the way back to our fence, which has left around 8 feet of area which is mostly shade for the day (especially since all of the tree's in the back have grown leaves). We have started a veggie garden, only becuase we didn't really know what else to do back there! As new neighbors have moved in around us, we have realized we want more privacy other than just the fence to keep our dog inside the yard! We are in process of drawing out a plan for the fence that would include a scalloped border of color, tree's for some more privacy... idea's for layout, and types of tree's??

We completed our small waterfall/pond tier only because the hill the builder left us with did nothing but ended up washing out into the yard. (There are pictures)

The other pictures are taken from our deck... which you all can see that all of our neighbors can see us.. and we can see them! I don't know that we really want "privacy ever greens" as those might add more shade for spring/summer.

I look forward to getting to know you all, and really looking forward to learning from all of you!!!

Thanks again, and any suggestions that you might help will be very helpful at this point!!!

Pretty water feature!
I would put up a lattice in strategic spots along the deck, and then plant vines in big pots to grow up them.
AND/Or I would plant a couple of fast growing, narrow trees to block the views of the neighboring decks.
Lots of flowering shrubs and perennials along the fence to help soften it...
Boy do I wish I had your yard!

Welcome to GG! Look at everyone's photos in their profiles and blogs- great way to get lots of wonderful ideas

Hi! Love the landscaping that you have done so far! Love the water feature! Great job! Maybe look into some kind of ornamental grass. Saw some called Porcupine Grass. Very pretty. It will form a screen if planted in rows. Has flowers and provides interest summer thru winter. Zones 4 to 9. Gets up to 8 feet high. Maybe have some kind of arbor or lattice or some poles to grow viney things on. Place the poles to form a "teepee" and then grow pole beans, or pretty flowers on it. Just some thoughts! God bless!

Fall will be the best time to plant, so now is a good time to research. Tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipfera, not a true poplar at all) is a great fast growing tree. Red maples would be nice and they grow fast as well. Another good tree, moderately fast growing is Scarlet Oak or Shumard Oak.

I would think about actually removing some of that grass to give you more of an area to plant these trees.

Mulch them well in the fall (fallen leaves are a great source of mulch as well any free wood chips from tree services) and keep your new trees watered (if it doesn't rain) for about a year to get them established.
