A coworker said tons of black bugs are eating the leaves of his burning bush. He called them aphids, but I"ve never seen black aphids - anyone with any ideas?

What size are these bugs? I've never heard of black aphids either, but who knows?!

Aphids can be black and a lot of other colors too.

I didn't really believe in the hard spray of water technique, but I tried it on my climbing rose. The next day when I inspected it, I found about 5 aphids. One branch went behind the wooden fence and I pulled it back through. That one branch that missed the spray was covered in aphids.

I'll let him know it could be aphids - I've started using an organic spray on my roses - Rose Pharm - there are other varieties for specific uses - cinnamon oil mostly - seemed to work well - I'll have him try the hose technique first!
