Low Plants for the Edge

Which plants make good edgers for a full sun garden? |

I like my santolina- it's a very pretty silvery color with yellow flowers. It stays compact, and spills over the edge of by edging blocks. It also stays "eversilver" all winter here in zone 7b  I'll post a pic as soon as I take one

Do you want something that trails over or do you want a clean edge? |

Phlox subulata aka Creeping phlox. My neighbor has lavendar and fuschia and they are spectacular. |

A picture's worth a thousand words. See, I got edges!! Naked edges! The bed I'd like to edge is the one on the right where the lilac is. I'd like some color for after the daylilies and lavender are done blooming. We look straight out at that garden from the dining room, and by mid-summer, it's pretty boring. I have two sedums there with space in front of them. One is variegated and the other is a bit of a sprawler. Neither one blooms with much color. I moved a dwarf agapanthus front and center, which will put out stalks with round blue flower heads for most of the summer. So I need something on either side of that. I haven't finished planting in front of the settee. I finally decided to put two varigated licorice plants and a burgundy verbena in front of the hostas and burgundy heucheras because I had some that overwintered. One licorice plant is in and I have to get another. That bed is shady in the back and sunny in the front. I just deepened that bed this year to give myself less grass and some more sunny garden to plant. Kind of a challenge to plant shade and sun in one bed. Attachments:  |

Well then you can't use phlox because it will be done by then. Was Rick hanging from the roof when he took that? |

Right, the phlox will be done. Yep. He leaves the screen out the bedroom window so he can lean out and take pics.  I can get some asters from Rick's mom. She has what she calls Michaelmas daisies. Do they get too tall? |

Have any of you guys planted Nasturtium? My neighbor gave me some seeds and said it grows to about 12in tall and has super looking flowers, and it is all edible. John |

I did but it got full of aphids. I believe it has a peppery taste. I moved another sedum over to fill the hole on the left. I was stepping over it to get behind that garden, which leads to the side of the house where my compost is, so that was a no-brainer. Okay, so no one has any favorite edging plants? Hardly anyone ever talks in the forums anymore. At one time you couldn't shut us up. |
