I let mine dry on the plant and then I go in and swoop them off into my hand. Just don't let them go by. You can pick them up off the ground if they fall. Easy harvest.

Thanks for the input! Are the seeds then ready to plant immediately after picking?.. or do they need to dry out for a while first?

When mine go to seed, they are already dried out, but we can't plant right away anyhow. Cilantro is a cool weather crop for us. My plants right now are going into flower and the seeds will be ready in a few weeks. It will be too hot to plant them. The ones that fall to the ground will germinate when the conditions are right--in the fall. Usually our first frost comes before they have time to set seed the second time around. When the spring comes, they just pop up everywhere. I don't know if the growing conditions in my area are the same as yours, but that's the way we find it works for us here.

Well it's hot year round down here in Miami AND we both have to worry about the upcoming hurricane season also. I've gathered several seeds and am going to try starting them in pots. Then, I'll transplant the strongest plant into the ground. It seems as though once in the ground, the plant is unstoppable!

Talk about unstoppable. Here's what my cilantro looked like on May 6. They are coming up in the cracks of The Patio Garden. It's no longer just a patio. It turned into a garden a quite a few years ago. We're enjoying the flowing wave of white flowers now while we are porch sitting.

I started cilantro this winter indoors and just placed it outside. It's not a long lived plant but does seed real easy. I take the seeds off when it's dried out and some managed to make little baby cilantro in the same pot.
