We bought this house two years ago. The first year we only had a month of summer to care for the lawn which was immaculate ... Last year was nice, too, but still weeds started showing up . This year we are innundated with weeds all over the lawn .I would prefer not to use harsh chemicals as we have three children and neighborhood kids that play on it BUT we're short on cash; are there any comprimise-products that work??? Or other ideas (I do pull them, but with almost an acre it's a little unrealistic to think I can keep up with them!) Thanks! (PS We're in New England-Zone 8, I think-- not that it matters as weeds grow EVERYWHERE!!!) |

I wish you'd let me know, too! My yard looked better last summer than ever. Diligence paid off. This year, every weed imaginable has pooped up in great profusion. I have this clover looking thing that grows flat on the ground. It now has tiny yellow flowers. They are ALL over the place! I pulled two bucket loads yesterday. I didn't even give it to the chickens. Too much! Where did it all come from? I've never seen it like this. I'm just going to pull and pull in the areas around the house. I sure don't want it to choke out my zoysia. I know, it's supposed to be the other way around, but this year it's terrible. |

At least you both HAVE lawns Mine is a big area of different weeds and grasslike weeds (crabgrass and the like). I feel like a complete idiot when I'm out mowing my "weeds"

Someone I talked to the other day was wondering if this is something that came in with Katrina. I know many times seeds, birds and butterflies have moved around with storms. I have just been mowing it and praying it is something that will die out and not come back next year. What a pain. Linda B |

I suspect y'all are suffering from an abundance of oxalis, aka sourgrass. It's edible (barely), and due to its shallow roots and small appetite, quite harmless. Attachments: ![]() |

I have that stuff stereoman. It's roots are quite extensive, not deep, and is very hard to pull. |

Will get a picture today if I can. This is different than the oxalis/sour grass. A real pest. Linda B |

This invasive little weed in our lawns looks to be some type of clover. The flower is round and the seed heads look like clover. Root is a cluster where the sourgrass puts down a long tap root. See if you can tell the difference. Sour grass looks entirely different. Hope the pix help a little. It seriously covers my whole back yard. Never been there before. Top two pix and the last are sourgrass, the others are this clover weed. Linda B Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have that clover-type one too. It just appeared this year as well. The sourgrass seems to stay mainly in my flowerbeds whereas the other stuff is in the "lawn"

CLOVER WEED! That's it. It has completely taken over the place! I've seen a few in the past, but never like this! Last year I worked my butt off and had a nice lawn. I expected it to look lovely this spring. NOT! We sprayed one section of the lawn with 2,4 D. I hate using chemicals, but I sure wasn't about to hand pull all that! I've been trying to pull it little by little around the lawn near my beds. I've got the sour grass, too. And that other dang thing with the purple flowers and the seed pod that looks like a pea pod. What in the world happened? We didn't have Katrina blow through here. |
