I have a couple of these mint type plants (they look like it and smell like it anyway). Can anyone help me determine exactly what type they might be?

I also have surrounding them a bunch of these grasses. They remind me of crabgrass almost. I don't see any type of flower stem or anything like that. I was hoping when they first started popping up that they might be a daffodil or iris of some sort....but nothing yet. One of the clusters is spreading out a little bit making it look even more like a weed . Any ideas? could it still be an iris? Just a decorative grass?

Thanks so much for your help!
Kelly

Your mint looks like spearmint to me. Rub a leaf and smell your fingers. You'll know the smell if it is.

Thank you! It definitely smells like mint. I looked up other photos of spearmint and while the leaf shape is right on, mine seems more silvery as opposed to bright green and waxy. Maybe it's the time of the year since they just came up?

Thanks again!

It's catmint (nepeta), which is ornamental, not edible. It'll get long blueish-purple spikes of flowers. Shear the plant back after its first bloom and it will continue to bloom.

Thank you sweetlebee, I have a silly question since I'm somewhat new to gardening. When you say "sheer" back, do you mean just the flowering stems or the entire plant?

Thanks again!

That thought occured to me! You shear back the leafy stems. Usually they say by 1/3 to 1/2.

Your mint doesn't look like catmint to me- the leaves are too "wrinkly" Catmint has much smoother leaves. Probably spearmint or just "mint" mint.
The grass-type plant could be liriope? It's far too evenly spaced to be weeds

My catmint looks identical to that. Maybe it's wrinklier when it emerges. You can see a bit of a purplish stem in the pic too, same as my catmint.
